Autoclaved Aerated Concrete

What is Autoclave?

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete is a product that has literally been around for a life time. It was originally introduced in Europe in 1923 and at this time there are just a few known companies in the United States that produce this product.

Autoclaved Aerated Concrete consists primarily of sand, one of the world's largest natural resources. The other components are lime, cement, water and an expansion agent. Once the ingredients are mixed, then they are poured into a large metal mold. The expansion agent and the other components react which in turn allows the mixture to expand five times its orignal volume. The product is put into an autoclave, a horizontal vessel in which it is steam cured under pressure.
